The Enter Food screen allows the user to communicate with the parent the type of food their child was served, the time it was served and the quantity that their child ate (none, some, most, all or extra serves). Educators are also able to record when a child has a different meal and whether that was parent supplied. This information shows up on the Parent App under the Daily care page.
To access this function select Room > Daily Care > Food icon
The children who are signed in to YCD for the day will display.
The app will automatically set the current time, however the user can press the clock icon to change the time if the task is being completed retrospectively.
The user selects which meal type it is (e.g. morning tea) from the scroll bar, they then enter the food name (e.g. fresh fruit).
The user taps on the quantity consumed (none, some, most, all) per child and this is immediately added to the child's timeline.
If the user selects 'extra', they click on the arrow to add extra serves (in quantities of 25% extra)
The user can select the pencil icon to record the details of a different meal offered to or consumed by a child. The food name needs to be entered and the quantity consumed and saved. The time can also be altered by clicking on the clock icon and changing to the appropriate time.
Once the user returns to the food screen, they can continue documenting the rest of the children and it will have remembered the food offered previously.
TIP:
We recommended that this information be recorded in real time. Parents find this information useful for:
- Planning their evenings (if their child has not eaten much during the day, the parent can ensure they have a hearty meal at night, or if their child is having sleep difficulties, they may be able to check the Parent App to see if hunger may be waking them);
- Planning dinner (so as to not serve the same meal for dinner that their child has eaten for lunch);
- Ensuring their child develops a healthy relationship with food/eating.
NOTE:
Selecting a time will allow the food to show in chronological sequence to the rest of the child's activities for that day on the Parent App.
